The World Faery Society seeking submissions

Found in: News

The World Faery Society is accepting short story and flash fiction submissions to their contest surrounding the mystery of The WestburyFaery—for a chance to be published in a beautiful illustrated book!

The Westbury Faery is an interactive Alternate Reality Storytelling Game that invites you to uncover Westbury Faery's story by joining the online investigation with writers around the world. Do you have a theory that answers the question: Who is the Westbury Faery and what is her story?

You can submit two types of stories: either flash fiction stories between 100 and 500 words or short stories between 1,500 and 3,000 words.

The World Faery Society will shortlist 100 of the best stories and theories across Wattpad and worldfaerysociety.org.

Twenty winners will appear in a beautifully illustrated book, which will be published in 2017. If your work is chosen for publication, you will be paid AUD$60 for a flash fiction story or $160 for short fiction. Writers retain rights over their material; the producers of The Westbury Faery own the characters and material they have acquired or developed for the Westbury Faery and maintain rights to this material.

Unfolding now across social media, entries via WattPad & website close Feb 28 2017!

Additional Information:

The Westbury Faery is an elaborate interactive multiplatform world-building narrative aimed at ages 13 – 17 that develops a unique mythology and community through audience collaboration. Through a website, social media, cinematic film sequences, and Augmented Reality, this work explores the fine line between fiction and truth. It also combines Australian, Canadian, and Irish faery folklore with historical facts.

The Westbury Faery was recently awarded production funding through the Canada-Australia Interactive Digital Media Incentive—a co-production initiative between Screen Australia and Canada Media Fund. It has also been developed with the assistance of Film Victoria.

Free downloadable Teachers Resources are available that take students through the club hunt to explore history, media literacy and story writing.
