Submissions are now open for The Big Issue Fiction Edition 2017!

Returning for the 13th year, the annual fiction edition is one of the biggest-selling fiction magazines in Australia, and is a highlight of the publishing calendar. As before, this exciting bumper edition will feature work from some of Australia's most loved writers, as well as a collection of open submissions that are judged "blind". 

All writers are encourage to submit – of whatever age, whether established, emerging, or just keen to have a crack. 

They are looking for stories covering all genres – comedy, love stories, scifi, heartwarmers, crime stories and everything in between. Don't be afraid to try something a bit different. 

Entry is FREE, and every author published is paid $500. 

Some of the entry requirements are as follows:

  • Stories should be between 300 and 3000 words.
  • To enter, send two printed (not electronic) copies of your entry to:
    Fiction Edition, The Big Issue, GPO Box 4911, Melbourne 3001.
  • Make sure your name, email address and phone number are included on a removable coversheet.

Entries close Monday 5 June, 2017.

Please note: they will only accept one story per person, and the work must be previously unpublished.
