The 2017 Somerset National Poetry Prize

The purpose of the Somerset National Poetry Prize is to encourage a love of writing poetry amongst secondary school students, to affirm it as a worthwhile literary pursuit, and to stimulate excellence in writing. It also aims to inspire and enrich youth literature.

As a part of the 2017 Somerset Celebration of Literature, school-aged students are invited to participate in the Somerset National Poetry Prize sponsored by Dr Annette Allen of Tweed Banora Dental.

The Prize is open to ALL current secondary students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents attending school in Australia. Students receiving home schooling are eligible to enter. Entrants must be under 19 years of age. There are two categories:

  • Junior Secondary - years 7 to 9
  • Senior Secondary - years 10 to 12

There is an entry fee of $15. Entries close 9 December 2016.
