The Helen Anne Bell Poetry Bequest is open to women poets over the age of 18. Applicants must be Australian, and the poems submitted must be “about Australian culture,” broadly defined.
Collections must be between 50 and 70 pages. The submitted poems should not previously have been published in collected book form, whether in print or on the virtual domain. It is, however, acceptable if a small number of individual poems have been published in print or web journals.
The winning poet will receive a $5,000 cash prize, and the Bell bequest will pay for the publication and launch of the collection.
The winning poet must also agree to give a public reading of their work at the University of Sydney.
Only electronic submissions via Submittable will be accepted.
Poets who have previously been awarded the Helen Anne Bell Poetry Bequest are not eligible to apply.
The three judges appointed are Kate Lilley, Pam Brown and Gig Ryan.
