Geraldton - EOIs: Lead Script Writer/Director

Found in: News

Are you a writer and theatre director with a passion for story telling that grows from a community's collective voice?

The City of Greater Geraldton is embarking on an ambitious commissioning project to create an original theatre work for professional presentation and touring in 2019/20.

They are seeking expressions of interest for the role of Lead Script Writer/Director. The position requires someone with experience in collaborative script writing. The person should also be able to lead a small team of local writers to create a script that captures the essence and character of Geraldton whilst also dealing to universal themes of belonging and identity. Additionally, experience working with regional communities and with First Nation writers is particularly valued.

Following initial consultation with representatives from Geraldton's creative community, a basic concept has been developed with the working title: 'Honeymoon Cottage'.

Script development will occur throughout 2018 via a combination of writing workshops held in Geraldton and additional solitary time to finalise the script.

A rehearsal period with professional performers would occur during 2019 with sound and visual design also being finalised during this year. It is expected that the total project will require a commitment of 9-10 weeks across 2018 and 2019. Scheduling is flexible.

Indicative fee: $2000 per week + travel expenses

To receive the 'first concepts' document, please email: marnied@cgg.wa.gov.au

To express interest in this position, please send your biography, web links of past theatre work you have directed, and a sample of a previous script to Marnie Douglas, Arts and Cultural Development Officer for the City of Greater Geraldton here: marnied@cgg.wa.gov.au

EOIs due Monday 15 Janurary 2018.
