This is a chance for an Australian artist to create work in one of the most dynamic cities in the world - Beijing. Bundanon Trust is partnering with the renowned Red Gate Gallery to offer a four-week residency in one of Red Gate's studios in China's capital.

This is a new initiative to enable the artists from both Australia and China to create work in a new and stimulating environment while also contributing to greater understanding between the two countries.

The first stage will be a residency by an Australian artist in China in 2017 - applications now open.

The Bundanon-Red Gate Artist Exchange includes:

  • Return airfare from Australia to Beijing.
  • Stipend of AUD 2000
  • Accommodation and studio space for four weeks provided by Red Gate Gallery
  • Airport pick-up in Beijing
  • A welcome package with all the information you need for your stay.

You will need to organise your own:

  • Chinese visa
  • Health and travel insurance
  • Food

The timing of the residency will be negotiated between the successful applicant and Red Gate Gallery.

There is more information about the facilities and services provided by Red Gate on their website.

Who can apply?

The Red Gate residency is open to individual arts professionals who are Australian citizens or permanent residents.

The residency is most suitable for visual artists and writers, as the facilities at Red Gate's facilities are geared towards such artists. Artists in other disciplines are welcome to apply, but be aware that the studio spaces are not suitable for rehearsal. The suitability of Red Gate will therefore depends on the nature of your project.
